    Why take rehab seriously?

Alcoholism is a disease – it is chronic, progressive and has to be treated. In some cases, if left untreated or improperly, it can prove to be fatal. An otherwise healthy individual, capable of performing effectively and normally, can turn into an ill individual because of this disease. Thanks to the immense amount of progress made in understanding and recovering from this disease, alcohol rehabilitation has become a viable and effective option for course of treatment.

    What is alcohol rehabilitation?

Broadly put, alcohol rehab is a comprehensive and structured program which helps an individual detoxify and do away with the habit of alcoholism. It also helps an individual lead a normal life, aware of the dangers of relapsing into the problem.

The program is conducted in different ways across the world but it follows a pattern that more or less encompasses:

    ·        Alcohol detoxification

    ·        Counseling

    ·        Dealing with withdrawal symptoms

    ·        Therapy sessions

    ·        Continued care to support and sustain a recovering alcoholic.

    Safety and encouragement is key

There are many aspects that go into making an alcohol rehab program a success. It is extremely important that an alcoholic seeks help as soon as possible. Rehab programs will bring together emotional and professional facets to make it possible for an alcoholic to get clean and stay sober. Some of these aspects are:

    ·        Safety and comfort

    ·        Professional counseling

    ·        Non-judgmental approach

    ·        Assessing an individual’s problem and treatment program and

    ·        Specializedconsultations too.

    Types of rehab programs

Alcohol rehabilitation may also take place in different ways. The course of treatment is decided by a professional. The program can vary according to duration and content. Depending on the individual and even the environment that he or she lives in, an alcohol rehabilitation program may take place over a month, few months or even a year and more.

Programs may also differ in their location. Clinics, detoxification centers, hospitals and counseling establishments can offer programs in their own premises. Rehab programs can also be conducted in a patient’s house as well. Some intensive programs may also call for some kind of hospitalization.

An alcohol rehab program will bring together psychological, mental and physical counseling and care too. For instance, an alcoholic may need counseling in order to recognize the problem and the damaging effect it has taken on their lives, denial is a pervasive element in most alcoholics recovery process.
