Answer: This may be due to a number of Configuration issues on Your computer. Here are a few suggestions you can try to correct the issue:
1- Java or Chat Room fails to load
A) To Test and Troubleshoot if you have Java Enabled on your Computer, click on the Logo Below.

In the New window, If you can see the "dancing Duke logo" image , then your Java is functioning correctly.
Chat room still not loading Goto Section 3
B) It is also possible the Browser ( eg.Mozilla FireFox) you are using requires you to download a plugin, in order to access the chat room. This most likely means you have not enabled JAVA on your computer or just in the Browser you are using.
2- If you Do Not have Java enabled on your computer, try these solutions:
A) For Mozilla FireFox
- Check to see if you have Java enabled.
- In the Browser Menu goto and click on Tools then
- Options and then the
- Content tab.
- Make sure there are check marks in the boxes infront of: 1) Enable Java and 2) Enable JavaScript
If Java is Enabled you must Click to download the plugin ( this will be a one time installation)
B) For Internet Explorer
- Check to see if you have Java enabled.
- In the Browser Menu goto and click on Tools then
- Internet Options and then the
- Advanced tab.
- Scroll down until you find Java [Sun] and make sure you have a check mark in the box.
3- If you have Java Enabled:
A) Empty the Java Plug-in cache.
Clearing the Java Plug-in cache ensures that the browser loads the latest versions of Java applications and applets.
To clear the Java Plug-in cache:
- Click Start > Settings> Control Panel.
- Double-click the Java icon in the control panel.
The Java Control Panel appears.
- Click on the General Tab
- Click Settings under Temporary Internet Files.
The Temporary Files Settings dialog box appears
- Click Delete Files.
The Delete Temporary Files dialog box appears.
- There are three options on this window to clear the cache.
Delete Files
View Applications
View Applets
- Click OK on Delete Temporary Files window.
Note: This deletes all the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the cache.
- Click OK on Temporary Files Settings window.
B) Check your Internet Security Settings
- Right click on your Internet Browser icon on your desktop
- Click on the Security tab
- Under Select a Web content zone, click on and highlight Internet
- Security Level for this zone, should be set no higher then Medium to allow Java to function
- Click Apply
